An MWV Arts Association and Settlers Green Collaboration: Inaugural Pop-Up Art Show Joins the Schedule of Events at Bring A Friend Weekend
Give a gift of art this holiday season. For one day only—Saturday, November 9—artists from across our region will take over Building F at Settlers Green, coinciding with the annual Bring A Friend shopping event. The show will open at 10AM and close at 4PM and there is no fee to attend.
Visitors will have the chance to explore the work of member artists whose work spans several mediums of painting, photography, and ceramics. The pop-up show is unique from a traditional gallery experience — all of the artists will be on-site to chat with visitors and share their process, inspirations, and creative personalities. Participating members include: Margaret Dries, Sarah Eastman, Elaine Ford, Nick Gagnon, Bob Grant, JP Goodwin, Jessie Lozanski, Lucy Merrow, Alyssa Moore, Barbara Perry, Kristen Pobatschnig, Ashara Stansfield, Alexis Stefano, Wendy Wells, and Stuart Webb.
Photographer Bob Grant has been a member of the arts association for several decades since he started photographing New Hampshire scenes in 1975. “I get uplifted after a special day—those rare winter mornings when the trees are coated with snow and the light is magical, or after shooting a sunset in the Himalayas. My most favorite time of the year to photograph is winter. I love being out in the cold during the early morning hours when I am alone with the sounds of winter.”
Stuart Webb, one of the newest members of the association, is also the pottery studio manager at the League of NH Craftsmen in North Conway. About her work Webb says, “I started working with clay in 2016 and was immediately hooked! I work primarily on the wheel and create functional pieces that strive to bring attention, presence and beauty into everyday moments and routines. I’m inspired by the imperfect, by happy accidents, by the way a palm cups a mug or fingers sit in a handle.”
Creating affordable opportunities for artists fosters growth of the arts community by making it financially feasible for emerging creatives to exhibit their work alongside experienced artists. This event is made possible by Settlers Green, who generously donated the temporary venue in support of the local art community. In turn, the Mt. Washington Valley Arts Association is hosting this show with no fees to the participating artists.
The Mt. Washington Valley Arts Association has been promoting the arts in our community since the 1960s through events, classes, and the annual Art in the Park festival. The association’s gallery is open year-round at 16 Norcross Circle (adjacent to Sawyer River Knife & Trading Co., behind the new Cheese Louise), Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with additional hours during holidays. The arts association is proud to welcome new artists and art-loving volunteers on a rolling basis.
