As winter loosens its grip and the light lingers a little longer each evening, we’re drawn back outside — to wide horizons, fresh air, and the sense of possibility that comes with the changing season.
The Mt. Washington Valley Arts Association presents Under Open Skies, a spring exhibition inviting artists to explore the outdoors in all its forms: sweeping landscapes, quiet backyard moments, shifting weather, open roads, garden beginnings, mountain light, and coastal air. This show celebrates connection to the natural world, the return of color and light, and the movement, growth, and seasonal transition that define this time of year.
The exhibition will be on view through Monday, June 29, with a special “Meet the Artists” celebration on Saturday, April 18 from 1–4 p.m
The show features the work of more than 30 local artists. Resident artists exhibiting a significant body of work include Sarah Eastman, Joanne Gallant, Rosemary Gerbutavich, John Girouard, Bob Grant, Sandi Poor, Lori Stearns, and Wendy Wells. Additional exhibiting artists include Martha Aucoin, Lizzy Berube, M. Robin Cornwell, James Cryan, Laura Guptill, Nancy Hall, Julie L’Heureux, Karen Lord, Brenda McCarty, Lucy T. Merrow, Maryellen Moran, James O’Donnell, Barbara Perry, Alexis Stefano, and Laura S. Thomson.
The association also proudly welcomes new member artists Jack Bender, Meghan Sofia Bernier, Stephanie Blackstock, Tabitha Hale, and Antonia Winefield, all of whom are exhibiting at the gallery for the first time.
For this exhibition, the association is especially excited to introduce its inaugural Community Guest Artist Wall, a new initiative designed to foster collaboration and connection across local creative groups. This season’s featured artists include Kennett High School sophomores Natalia Scontsas and Autumn Silliman, and juniors Jocelyn Gagnon, Maira Morgan, and Lena Silva.
