The Mt. Washington Valley Arts Association invites the public to experience The Quiet Season, a winter exhibition reflecting the stillness, introspection, and subtle beauty of the colder months.
As snow blankets the landscape, sound softens and movement slows. The Quiet Season explores this unique time of year—when animals retreat into hibernation, molecules freeze into crystalline order, and the world feels hushed and contemplative. Through painting, mixed media, glass, and more, the exhibition highlights winter not as an absence of life, but as a period of rest, reflection, and quiet transformation.
Featured resident artists displaying a larger collection of work include Lizzy Berube, Wendy Wells, John Girouard, Lori Stearns, Joanne Gallant, Don Gemmecke, Bob Grant, Rosemary Gerbutavich, and Sandi Poor, whose works interpret winter’s silence through varied materials and personal perspectives.
The Association is also pleased to welcome Susan Hoyt of Madison, New Hampshire, a stained glass artist exhibiting with MWVAA for the first time. Hoyt’s work adds a luminous dimension to the exhibition, capturing light and stillness through glass.
The exhibition opens with a Meet the Artists Reception on Saturday, January 17, from 1–4 p.m. at the MWVAA Gallery in North Conway. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to view the exhibition, meet participating artists, and enjoy conversation and refreshments in a relaxed, winter setting. The event is free and open to the public. The perfect occasion to launch into the new year with creativity!
