Maryellen Moran featured artist at Main Street Art

May 27 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The MWV Arts Association’s Main Street Art Gallery is highlighting the oil and mixed media paintings of Maryellen Moran on Saturday, May 27th from 12 to 4 pm with an Open House.

Moran resides in Massachusetts full time but has a 2nd home in the valley. She has been an active artist member of the MWV Arts Association for many years. Her work is big, bold, exciting and contemporary. Here are her own words:

“Painting allows me to revisit the places I’ve traveled, places that have left an impression on me, places that touch my imagination and make me wonder what was or could have been. The landscapes that inspire me are those that give me pause. I know I’ve found my inspiration when my mind begins to contemplate all the possibilities of a new found terrain.

I tend to paint large 30×40 canvases with both a brush and palette knife. The large canvas offers more freedom to make sweeping strokes. Studying the landscape is important for the composition, but it’s the mood I’m out to capture – the mood of ever-changing mother nature.

Although I admire traditional landscape artists, I strive to create works that are more contemporary, so the viewer can make their own interpretations of the subject and of nature’s phenomena.

I’ve worked on several series – my latest body of work is called “Pondering”. They are Impressionistic reflections of water inspired by a combination of hikes in the White Mountains and a visit to the Klimt Museum in Manhattan.

I have also created works inspired by the island of Madeira, Portugal. Here is where you can find a misty plateau at the top of a mountain considered magical by the locals – called the Fenal.

The Fishing Weir series was discovered off the coast of New Brunswick, Canada where I was immediately captivated by the abandoned and dilapidated weirs collapsing into the sea. Little did I know that this technique for fishing was used by indigenous people everywhere not so long ago.”

The public is welcome to meet the artist and enjoy the fine arts gallery. Refreshments will be served. Main Street Art Gallery is located next to Sawyer River Trading Company, behind the MET Coffeehouse, 16 Norcross Circle,  North Conway Village. For more information, call 603-356-2787.
